Porter, Oklahoma — a town of roughly 600 known as the "Peach Capital of Oklahoma" — has held an annual Peach Festival since 1967. The program for the 2016 Festival featured games, cooking contests, music, a car and bike show, games, and a tractor pull, as well as a commemorative postmark to mark the Festival's 50th year.
For these covers, I wanted to honor both the town and the fruit they are famous for. I applied filters, a lace border, and a shadow to a picture of peaches on a tree, ready for harvest. I positioned a pair of 1995 Peach definitive stamps from the "Peaches and Pears" booklet (Scott #2487) so that they appear to be growing on the branches. In the upper-left, I placed a detail of the sign welcoming visitors to the town, bent into an arch. Each cover is postmarked with a peach-shaped "50th Annual Porter Peach Festival 1967-2016" postmark dated July 16, 2016 from Porter, OK.
You can request the postmark for yourself through August 15th here.
