Kliegles Garage is a fixture in Goodwin, South Dakota, and in 2016 they celebrated 100 years in business with a parade, golf tournament, street dance, tire toss competition, and more.
For these covers, I used a #6-3/4 size U606 postal stationery envelope celebrating small businesses in America. The upper-right of the stationery bears a collage of classic store signs – including one reading "Autos" – as well as the inscription "Small Business USA 20c". In the lower-left is a picture of a classic American main street.
I printed design elements, by color laser, on the surface of the cover. Next to the main street drawing, I placed a photo of vintage automobiles in front of Mount Rushmore with decorative torn edges, and in the upper-left I placed the same glowing yellow and orange "check engine" light from an automobile dashboard that Kliegles Garage uses as its logo.
To meet the current First Class letter rate, I added a 34¢ South Dakota "Greetings from America" single (Scott #3601), depicting a bison on a plain in front of Mount Rushmore. It is cancelled with a "Kliegles Garage Station 100 Year Celebration, 1916 – 2016" pictorial postmark depicting the business itself, dated July 2, 2016 in Goodwin, South Dakota, 57238.
