Miles for Mutts “Stop Animal Cruelty” covers

2016 marked the 8th annual "Miles for Mutts" motorcycle ride to benefit the Humane Society of Alamance County, and the Human Society organized an adorable pictorial postmark of a dog riding a motorcycle for the event.

For these covers, I took the four stamps from the "Dogs" series (Scott 2098-2101) and the four stamps from the "American Motorcycles" series (Scott 4085-4088) and asked the playful question: "If the two dogs on each stamp had to choose a motorcycle to buy, together, which would they choose?"

I came up with:

  1. 2098 and 4085 (Beagle and Boston Terrier with Indian 1940)
  2. 2099 and 4087 (Chesapeake Bay Retriever and Cocker Spaniel with Chopper c. 1970)
  3. 2100 and 4088 (Alaskan Malamute and Collie with Harley Davidson 1965)
  4. 2101 and 4086 (Black & Tan Coonhound and American Foxhound with Cleveland 1918)

I then assembled covers for each pair, each picturing a vignette of a dog wearing motorcycle goggles, a purple animal cruelty awareness ribbon, and an exhortation to "Stop Animal Cruelty" in a font bearing little paw-prints.
