Osseo, Michigan holds an annual Heritage Day & Great Mushroom Hunt to celebrate local culture, history, and the great outdoors.
This cover by Joshua McGee features a bowl of wild-harvested morels in a bed of large-flowered trilliums, a wildflower that grows wild in the Michigan woods. Beneath the photograph is an excerpt from the poem "Morels" by Jane Whitledge:
A dumb eloquence seems their trade.
Like hooded monks in a sacred wood they say:
Tomorrow we are gone.
It bears a 29¢ Large-flowered Trillium stamp from the Wildflowers issue (Scott #2652) and a 22¢ Sesquicentennial of Michigan Statehood stamp (Scott #2246) and is cancelled with an Osseo, Michigan "Morel Station" pictorial postmark dated May 7, 2016.
