Syttende Mai, Stoughton, Wisconsin

Syttende Mai (literally, "seventeenth May") is the National Day of Norway observed on May 17th of each year and celebrates Norway becoming an independent kingdom.

This cover by Joshua McGee features a detail from the painting 17th of May 1893 by Norwegian painter Christian Krohg in a digital frame. The date "17 May 1814" — the day the constitution was signed at Eidsvoll — sits below the crest of Norway. It bears one 5¢ Norway stamp (Scott #911) and one single from the 2016 Botanical Art set and is cancelled with a "Syttende Mai Station" pictorial postmark from Stoughton, Wisconsin dated May 14, 2016.
