Harriet Lee Hammond Library covers

36th in a series

Location:

310 2nd St
Upper Lake, CA  95485-9591

Research:

From the Lake County Bee newspaper in 1916:

The new Hammond Memorial Library, built for the people of Upper Lake by Mrs. Charles Mifflin Hammond in honor of her late husband, was dedicated, and the edifice turned over and accepted by the people of the late Mr. Hammond's home town. Several hundred people attended the ceremony, which took place in the library last Thursday evening. [1]

From The Kelseyville Sun newspaper in 1916

The dedication of the Hammond Memorial Library building on Thursday evening, October 19, was a very impressive event. The invocation was by [illegible] Ball of Lakeport, followed by the reading, by H.E. Witherspoon, of an interesting letter from Mrs. Chas. M. Hammond, who is now in Boston. [2]

Notes:

I would like to extend personal thanks to the Lake County Library for assistance in acquiring scans of the original articles.
