Robert E. Howard “Solomon Kane” cover

Before there was Batman, there was Solomon Kane.

The character of Solomon Kane was the creation of pulp author Robert E. Howard. Debuting in the 1928 short story "Red Shadows", this mysterious, principled, moral avenger dressed in black has influenced or inspired countless literary characters over the past ninety years, including — perhaps most notably — Batman. In honor of the character's 90th anniversary, Cross Plains, Texas offered a pictorial postmark featuring Kane dated June 8, 2018.

These covers from McGeekiest Cachets feature comic artist Gary Gianni's imagination of the character and an oval vignette of Howard.
