San Diego Ocean Beach Pier covers

I grew up in San Diego, and spent many happy summer days of my childhood at Ocean Beach, in the shadow of the Ocean Beach Pier, getting sunburnt and forming lifelong memories. I was delighted when the Ocean Beach Main Street Association arranged for a pictorial postmark to commemorate its 50th anniversary.

For these covers, I processed an image of a young woman in a bathing suit, holding a surfboard on a San Diego beach and gazing out to sea. For postage, I used one California Statehood Sesquicentennial single from 2000 (Scott #3438) and one single from the 1994 Wonders Of The Sea set (Scott #2863, 2864, 2865, and 2866). Each cover bears a large, clear impression of an "Ocean Beach Pier 50th Anniversary Station: Celebrating 50 Years" pictorial postmark from San Diego, California, 92106. The postmark is dated July 2, 2016.
